Yoga Therapy

What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga Therapy is a person-centered, integrative mind-body approach to therapy or healthcare. It looks at the entire person and works with the body, breath and mind to restore balance in the physiological systems of the body, and help you find more peace and harmony within yourself.

Yoga Therapy sessions utilise evidence-based practices from many fields, including yoga and mindfulness (Buddhism), as well as psychotherapeutic principles from both a modern Western and ancient Eastern perspective. It cleverly weaves together modern science (biomedicine and neuroscience), psychology and trauma sensitive training, with ancient yoga wisdom and perspectives to provide a unique and holistic, person-centered therapy.

How might we work together?

It is my passion and with compassion that I hope to support you in your journey towards improved health, wellbeing and happiness, so that you can feel better and experience more joy in your everyday life.

I am here to support you in that journey, to teach you how to understand your own body and regulate your own nervous system, to improve your overall health and eliminate symptoms of a dysregulated system as a result of ill-health or trauma.

We do this together, in partnership, and it's a process, not a quick fix. It's a process of learning about yourself, understanding the messages from your body and the influence you have on your biology, holding space for what comes up along the way to be seen and felt, and it takes time to build new and healthy patterns in the breath, body and mind and eliminate default habits.

Therefore, I recommend a minimum of six sessions to begin with, including an initial intake session to discuss your goals and start to understand how we might work together long-term.

Cost per session: £55 per hour

Initial Intake Session: £65 for 75 minutes

I recommend a slightly longer session of 75-90 minutes where possible, or on a less-regular frequency.

"I have found yoga therapy so empowering. It has given me the starter tools to check in with my body and consider how I might balance my energy through yoga therapy practices. Prior to this, I felt so anxious about starting this journey, and didn’t know what to expect but I cannot recommend  Marie’s approach enough. She is so knowledgeable, and takes a really compassionate, validating and non-judgemental stance.

Throughout the initial 6 sessions, I was able to explore my experiences and use the space to identify differences when using different yoga therapy techniques. I also learnt how moving forward I can continue to embed these practices into my journey. I learnt how to understand my embodied experience and saw how different practices could influence my physiological response, at the same time allowing me to be present with the experience I was having in the room because the space felt safe to access with Marie.

Given that I had barely practiced yoga before, I felt able to come into this space without judgement and could explore some of the thought processes and feelings I was having with Marie without any barriers."
